Angelina Jolie in the land of blood and honey
Angelina Jolie has responded to a lawsuit filed by Josip Knezevic, a Croatian journalist, who claims the Hollywood star has borrowed his ideas when writing the script for her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey. Knezevic, who also goes by the name James Braddock, has sued the actress for lifting the content of his book The Soul Shattering, but Jolie has dismissed his accusations.
- There are many books and documentaries that I did pull from. It's a combination of many people's stories. But that particular book I've never seen, said the actress and added she was not surprised by the lawsuit, a common sight in Hollywood. Commenting on her urge to shoot a film which deals with the War in Bosnia, the actress agreed with the rest of the crew this story was just a part of her humanitarian impulse she has nurtured for years working for UNICEF.
- This movie is really just another of her humanitarian missions, said Rade Serbedzija, who portrays the main character in the film.
The renowned actor compared Jolie’s directorial qualities to those of Clint Eastwood, with whom Serbedzija worked with on Space Cowboys.
- Her work reminds me of Clint Eastwood’s style because they are both subtle, quiet and honest. They are among directors who don’t like to explain things too much; they just understand actors and whisper into their ears what it is they expect of them, said Serbedzija.
Angelina proved she is not overly concerned with the lawsuit, when she enjoyed the party together with her partner Brad Pitt and the rest of the select cast of In the Land of Blood and Honey, held after the film’s premiere.
- Angelina sipped her champagne and entire evening snatched cigarettes from her friends, while Brad always had a cigar in his hand. He later ordered a bottle of white wine. You could see he wanted to relax and have fun because the two of them rarely spend their evenings without their children around, said one of the guests at the party.
